Bullying is a pervasive issue that affects individuals across all age groups. Despite its harmful impact, many myths still cloud our understanding of what bullying truly is. By debunking these misconceptions, we can foster safer, more compassionate environments for everyone. Let’s explore some common myths and the facts that challenge them.
Myth 1: Bullying Is a Natural Part of Childhood Many believe that bullying is simply part of growing up. However, aggression—whether physical or emotional—is not natural. No one should endure harm as a rite of passage.
Myth 2: Words Can’t Hurt You The adage "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" couldn't be more misleading. Verbal bullying can leave emotional scars that last a lifetime.
Myth 3: Only Boys Bully While boys may engage in more physical bullying, girls often use verbal and emotional tactics, particularly during adolescence.
Myth 4: Ignoring Bullying Makes It Stop Silence often empowers the bully. Addressing the issue with adult support is crucial.
Myth 5: Cyberbullying Is Less Harmful The anonymity and wide reach of cyberbullying can cause significant, long-lasting damage.
Unfortunately, negative behaviour such as bullying exists in our community. By enhancing people’s ability to feel good about themselves there is a possibility to facilitate a process of being able to change behaviour that has negative consequences. However, changing behaviour is not enough. Bullying isn’t a phase—it’s a societal issue that requires our collective effort to stop. Let's replace myths with understanding and empower individuals to stand against bullying with confidence and compassion.
Aquilla Training offers an online workshop Stopping the Bully: Strategies for Creating Safe Environments. In this 5-hour workshop, we use a wholistic approach by looking at bullying from a wider perspective than just a behavioural problem. We see bullying as a fruit of a larger problem in society. The community is influenced by what happens to individuals at the hands of other individuals because the effects of bullying are not limited to the targeted victim, the bully and the bystander.
This workshop is not just a theoretical tactic but a solution-focused approach to addressing bullying. We attempt to widen participants' understanding of the problem-saturated situation and create the possibility for positive and healing dialogues in the various communities.
Online Workshop Duration: 4 to 5-hour online course. Self-paced (You can start at any time).

Beyond Words: The Therapeutic Power of Art and Play in Wellness and Recovery.
Art encompasses various human activities, including creating visual, auditory, or performing items. These activities express the artist's imaginative and conceptual ideas or technical skills, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Through art, individuals can communicate complex emotions and thoughts, fostering a deeper connection with themselves and others.
Play consists of activities performed for self-amusement that offer behavioural, social, and psychomotor rewards. These rewards come from within the individual, making play an enjoyable and spontaneous experience. Play encourages creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction, contributing to well-being and personal growth.
In this course, we will explore various forms of handicraft, folk art, and cultural practices as tools for self-expression and creativity. These activities lead to wholeness, learning, and wholesome pleasure, enriching our lives in meaningful ways. By distinguishing between normal human activities and therapeutic practices, we aim to provide a clear understanding of how art and play can be integrated into daily life for both enjoyment and healing.
